2009 Fifty - Fifty Tournament Results
The two-day Fifty-fifty tournament was shortened to one day of fishing when small craft advisories (posted at 5 a.m.) canceled the first day of fishing. The social agenda was carried out on Friday night with catered food and live entertainment at Toler's Cover marina. With fishing conditions for Saturday much more favorable the fleet of less than thirty boats trolled the ocean for wahoo and dolphin to weigh in and for billfish to release in the Petrel Tournament. First Place in the Petrel Tournament went to Stevei Leasure's boat Summer Girl for releasing two white marlin. Summer Girl aslo won the CCA conservation award and Tony Smoak Ecology Award for the tag and release of one dolhin - CONGRATS! First place in the wahoo category went to Charlie Aimar's Splitbill weighing in a fine 56-pound wahoo. Wahoo proved scarce on this day, and no other awards were given in this category. First place in the dolphin category went to Mudslinger with a 22.9-pound mahi. First place for lady angler on a dolphin went to Fishwrapper with a 16.7-pound mahi. First place in the youth angler dolphin category went to Crushum with a 16.5-pound mahi. Haddrell's Point Tackle and a host of other sponsors put on a first class tournament even though attendance appeared to be down due to the economy. More catered food and live music was enjoyed by all on Saturday night at Toler's Cove, culminating in an awards ceremony and a special raffle for the Harry Johnson Conservation Fund.
