2018 Birding Journal Observations - July / August

Goldfinch visits Hummingbird Feeder
Wet weather ruined more than a few feeders full of birdseed in July and August, and the humidity was right around the corner. Some notable wildlife sightings underneath my feeders included twin kit foxes on 7/13 and doe with twin fawns on 8/1, and I had baby Carolina wrens in a hanging basket on July 2. There are some signs of fall migration on the way but in general the weather pattern still favors summer heat.

Pileated Woodpecker on tree
Notable sightings in July and August include blue jay, cardinal, Carolina chickadee, Carolina wren, dove, downy woodpecker, blue grosbeak, painted bunting, ruby-throated hummingbird, summer tanager, cattle egret, brown thrasher, brown-headed cowbird, towhee, pileated woodpecker, red-bellied woodpecker, yellow-billed cuckoo, tufted titmouse, white-breasted nuthatch, common yellowthroat, wood stork, swallow-tailed kite and blue-gray gnatcatcher.
