2012 Labor Day - Sasser family dove hunt

It was a special Labor Day dove hunt for those that accompanied three generations of the Sasser family into the cornfield. The doves had been waiting on the powerlines for two days, wondering when their opening day experience would come?! This was the date when garndpa Buddy Sasser could get together with Paul Sasser and son Kai in order to hone the family's wingshooting traditions. Though the sun was out and temperatures were hot, a steady breeze persisted from 2 until 5 and that kept the doves moving. Youth hunter Kai recorded two doves with his 16-gauge side-by-side shotgun, and an easy limit was gathered by the others. While hunting is the family specialty, saltwater fishing is also a passion and Paul Sasser is the founder of fishing website www.GoFishSC.com http://www.gofishsc.com/ which helps to convey fishing reports and catches of note along to its followers. My deep admiration goes to the Sasser family for passing on the traditions of hunting and fishing, and it was an honor to be with them in the field on a glorious Labor Day holiday hunt. Shooting doves in a steady breeze can offer some shots that will really test one's ability to lead or follow a dove's flight path in order to connect. Blowing feathers off of a doves rump while he jets on by is not uncommon! However, if a dove turns to fight the wind near you, then you have found an easy mark. The daily conditions affect the way doves fly in certain fields, and that is all just part of the hunt equation for wingshooters looking for the challenge that only mother nature can provide.
