The annual business meeting and dinner for the
Edisto Chamber of Commerce was held June 14. The Edisto Beach Civic Center is home to this event , and is also home to the office of Chamber Director Lisa Harrell. A social hour began at 6 p.m. giving business leaders a chance to enjoy some fellowship out of their place of work. Hamby's catering provided a Seasonal Seared Mahi Mahi supper for attendees with all the fixings, and McConky's provided the sweet tea.

After Harrell gave a presentation of highlights from the calendar year, the 2017 Business of the Year Award went to Green Boat Liquors. "Businesses who earn this reward are recognized for serving the community via their business in an exceptional manner," said Harrell. Criteria for consideration includes being a Chamber member, supporting Chamber events, supporting local organizations and government, and encouraging employees to be active as volunteers in the area. Nominees for Business of the Year are selected by fellow Chamber members.
The Martha Whetstone Service Award goes to those who have gone above and beyond in their contributions to the welfare and future of Edisto. Cheryl and Mickey Van Meter accepted the Whetstone Service Award and were recognized for their lifetime of contributions to the Edisto community. Three new board members were voted on and elected next, before an entertaining lecture form retired sportswriter and island resident Vic Ketchman, who shared his perspective of doing business inside the National Football League.
