2022 Birding Journal Observations - March / April

Summer Tanager against Green Leaves 4/27/22
Dry and windy conditions in the coastal plain of South Carolina did nothing to stop another early arrival of Spring, including lots of neotropical migratory songbirds. The month of May will still hold some first sightings in terms of birds, but what seems like what used to be a traditional big push of birds in May already happened in April. With multiple painted buntings, summer tanagers and blue grosbeaks in the mix it seems like a banner year too. A sprinkle of Indigo bunting, Common yellowthroat, and Hooded warbler sightings make it seem like the entire gamut of birds in here. Including sightings of Swallow-tailed Kite and Mississippi Kite too. There can be No Doubt that Spring is the pinnacle of birdwatching bliss.
