Flats boats ready to fish the LRC |
The third leg of the Lowcountry Redfish Cup (LRC), billed as the Charleston South event, was fished on September 22 under sunny skies out of St. John's Yacht Harbor. Team Two Reds backed up their earlier win at the Beaufort LRC in March, to earn back-to-back wins. This father and son fishing team from Beaufort of Chuck and Shane Lather wins the third leg of the 2012 LRC, and now they have a commanding points lead after three events. The
Davis father/son team took 13th place this day. The LRC consists of four events, with the final event to be fished in Hilton Head on October 20. After those four events, the top competitors will be participate in one more shoot-out tourney with the winner picking up a new 18-foot Shallowsport Classic boat, motor and trailer combo! Out of the 48 teams at the Chas. South event, 36 of them weighed in a redfish, leaving a dozen teams to fish harder next time. The first place two-redfish limit weighed 9.40-pounds, and the Lather's winning fish weighed 4.65-pounds and 4.75-pounds respectively (top ten results on chart). In second place overall in the LRC is Team Flats Broke, third place overall is Team Geechee, fourth place overall is Team Looking For Tail, and fifth place overall is Team Arrogant and Shabby (which sounds like they have some Pawley's Island blood.) Registration and Captain's meeting for the HHI event is at Southern Drawl Outfitters on October 19.
