Qualifying rounds of tennis were played on March 31 and April 1 at the Family Circle Tennis Center, and then the main draw got underway on Monday April 2. The fans appreciated the spectacular weather in the Lowcountry over the last few days at the
2018 Volvo Car Open.
Fan favorite player Petko, a defending champion from 2014, was defeated on Monday in her first match 4-6 and 5-7 to Varvara Lepchenko. And the defending champ from 2016, Sloane Stephens withdrew from the Volvo Car Open on Tuesday after winning the Miami Open on Saturday.
Other winners on Monday included Kiki Bertens, Polona Herzog, Alize Cornet, Fanny Stollar, and Daria Gavrilova. The top seeded players for 2018 begin play in the singles draw on Tuesday.
