Texas Cast and Blast at Redfish Lodge

Day One ducks: Drake Pintail and Bull Redhead !!
Uber-Guide Brian Holden put me on this NICE sheepshead
Opening day of duck season was the perfect time to visit The Redfish Lodge on Copano Bay in Rockport, Texas. The November 3 opener is a big deal along this section of coastal Texas, which is the bottom of the flyway for many species of ducks.  Hunting for pintail, redheads, teal and others offers a quality mixed bag in the morning, and by late morning we were out chasing redfish! The Redfish Lodge enjoys a mile-long gated peninsula, which delivers privacy for guests. Both departures for fishing and hunting are possible from the lodge, and on this trip we never left the Redfish Lodge grounds for the entire weekend. A team of Lodge staff served a pork chop dinner to a crowd of 23 one night, and then artfully presented a dinner for two the following night. Staying at the Redfish Lodge is an 'experience' that I can recommend, and they have 20 seasons of experiences to draw from in order to make guests happy. Special shout out to Uber-Guide Brian Holden for his hard work to get me through the mud and into the duck blind, while he put out the decoy spread and the wind-motion spinner. Not long after that he was putting me near to a small reef where I caught a Texas-sized sheepshead to display.

To read my feature article on my Texas Cast and Blast stay tuned for the Nov. 29 edition of The Charleston Mercury.
