2013 MegaDock - Day One fishing

The MegaDock Governor's Cup tourney saw 30 boats push off and head towards blue waters, while only two elected to lay in port on Thursday. The ocean was perhaps a bit rougher than predicted, but that seemed to spur on a good billfish bite and a great meatfish bite. The Can't Complain released the first billfish, handling a white marlin at 8:29 a.m., and then the entire fleet went on to release 5 blue marlin, 2 white marlin and 20 sailfish! Racing to 1000-points via five sailfish releases is Chasin' - fresh off their victory at the CBC. Rascal was the second boat to 1000 points for a blue marlin release and two sailfish releases, followed by Blue Sky in third with 800 points for releasing four sailfish. Home Run is also at 800 point for releasing one blue marlin and one sailfish. For those sportfishers willing to troll lures that might also catch the attention of meatfish the results were good with  dolphin, wahoo and tuna coming to the scales. Lady angler Kelli Roof from the Game On has the leading mahi - a long fish that weighed 42.6-pounds. Top wahoo goes to Wes Davis fishing from J and B with his 53.6-pound smoker. The largest blackfin tuna to the scales was brought by Juliet Chobanian on Big Sky with her 16.4-pound fish. Sunshine allowed lots of patrons to share in the fishing success while strolling along the MegaDock on Thursday evening. Eight boats went fishing on Friday, which means most of the fleet will wait to fish again on Saturday.
