The 11th anual Bennett Hospitality Megadock Billfishing Tournament got underway with a Wednesday night Captain's meeting at the Rice Mill Building at the City Marina. The registration process saw 32 boat sign up to compete, including all of the top ten boats in the 2013 Governor's Cup overall points competition. MegaDock's Robbie Freeman addressed the event sponsors and welcomed the anglers back to the MegaDock, while SCDNR's Wally Jenkins took care of going over the official rules for billfish releases. Food, drink and fellowship spilled out onto the docks after that with almost all of the boats slated to go fishing on Thursday. An improving offshore weather forecast for the weekend helped to bolster optimism about getting in a full three days of fishing, and here's the
MegaDock schedule. The 2013 tournament t-shirts were designed by
Blue Coast and the shirts can be purchased at their mobile trailer located next to the Rice Mill; hats are $15, t-shirts are $20 and long-sleeve t's are $25. MegaDock patrons can shop the new canvas wall hangings that Blue Coast is developing to supply interior decorations with a coastal theme to like-minded residents. Of course, Blue Coast is also selling their Protecht performance shirts with other sharp-looking gamefish designs. Thursday's weigh-in should be a good one, with the sun forecast to shine again today.
