The 2013 king mackerel tourney at Sullivan's Island was fished on August 3 in sunny, warm and calm ocean conditions. Despite bait somewhat scarce in the area, the kingfish bite has been good this summer with a
40-pounder caught in late July. Registration for the Sullivan's Salt Classic at the Fire Department Fish Fry shed was brisk, and plenty of anglers set their sights on looking for smoker kings. This tourney brings a guaranteed $10K first place to town and it took a 45.80-pound king to take home the top spot for Trae Everett fishing aboard The Reelist. In second place it was another 40-pounder with Mo Better II weighing a 41.25-king for Anthony Stith Jr. In thrid place was Keith Powell with a respectable 39.36-pound king caught from Lowcountry Native. Altogether their were 14 kings in the 30-pound class that filled out the Top 15 boats. Finishing in 23rd place with a nice 25.92-pound kin was lady angler Patsy Post, fishing with Captain Louis McMichael aboard the Plan B. Crew Chad Shores and Andrea Leary won the 50/50 pot on Friday, and kept this team in the money by taking second place in the 'single engine' category of boats. Congrats!
