Mahi and Tuna Tacos really satisfy |
A new restaurant on Bald Head Island is situated near to the ship's store at the marina, and offers outside dining that looks towards the Cape Fear River channel. The manager was friendly when seating us and went on to answer typical questions that first time visitors might ask, such as where I could sign up for some kayak fishing the next day. As a lifelong angler I really appreciated the fishing motif decorum outside on the porch, and felt right at home as we started the meal with grilled island chicken and shrimp skewers with remoulade and chipotle sauce. These shrimp were medium-sized and cooked to perfection, making them soft and savory, in fact they were so good we should have ordered more.
The mexican theme runs strong at
Delphina Cantina so we ordered some trademark soft tacos for dinner. My Carne Asada taco was filled with flank steak and a black bean spread with a signature mexican slaw and guacamole. The fish taco with pan-seared mahi mahi and a tropical pico de gallo sauce is a crowd favorite and the cantina and I washed mine down with a Corona Light beer. The tuna taco came out looking fresh and pink with sesame seed, black beans and greens inside a crispy lightly-fried flour tortilla shell. We were too full for dessert but the excellent service we experienced was sweet.
