Yulia Putintseva played very well on Tuesday |
The line at the gate at 10 a.m. told the story that tennis fans were really going to turn out for Ladies Day at the
Volvo Car Open. Besides lots of great tennis, Venus William's was on hand to show off her fashion line at 11:30 and then activities all day long conclude with the first of the night time matches, when defending champ Anqelique Kerber plays at 7 p.m. on stadium court. Homemade hats show great spirit from tennis fans |
Early matches saw Daria Kasatkina of Russia defeat Saisai Zheng of China on Volvo Stadium Court. Not to be confused with Shuai Zhang of China defeating Lesley Kerkhove of the Netherlands. Another Russian advanced when Yulia Putintseva had a masterful match against Kurumi Nara of Japan, and I can't wait to see her play again. Sam Stosur opened her tournament with a solid victory against a younger player from Serbia, winning 6 - 4 , 6 - 4. The doubles matches began today when Americans Sloane Stephens and Madison Keys took the court against Gabriela Dabrowski and Darija Jurak, but the Croat and Canadian team went on to claim victory.
