Hunt principles that make things run smoothly |
Bruce Compton and his son BJ deserve a lot of credit for helping to host the hunting portion of the 7th Bamberg Take One Make One (TOMO) youth hunt. SCDNR's Lynwood Kearse was on hand as usual for the TOMO hunt that featured youths enrolled in the wilderness program of the John De La Howe school in McCormick. The weather over the weekend was favorable for outdoor adventure and ten youths were able to deer hunt and then overnight in a Bamberg hunt lodge. Saturday night a very nice 9-point buck was brought to the skinning shed by a student name AJ, and it was his first time ever hunting for white-tailed deer. He used a .243-rifle to harvest the buck that was munching on some corn in between two does, and was accompanied in the deer stand by mento Al Gaer. Two other students also had steady aim and were able to harvest one doe apiece. There were nothing but the smiles of success that evening during the barbecue dinner where experience between veteran hunters and new hunters was gladly passed along.
