Blue marlin bill preserved for 2012 Big Rock winner

Surprise! Todd Baxley and the bill from his 2012 Big Rock win

It was a distinct honor to be in Georgetown for the start of the 25th Anniversary of the Governor's Cup. A special presentation at the Captain's Meeting on Wednesday night saw the SCDNR surprise Todd Baxley with the taxidermist-prepared bill from the wining blue marlin at the 2012 Big Rock tourney in North Carolina. The story goes that after Todd Baxley's blue marlin was weighed-in on Day One of the 2012 Big Rock, the fish went to NCDNR for science, and they preserved the bill and tail. It was only later that SCDNR's Amy Dukes reached out to them to secure ownership of the bill. Dukes then had the bill preserved via taxidermy and made the surprise presentation to Baxley at the start of the 2013 Governor's Cup. Baxley is quick to give credit to Fly Buoy for the team effort that it took to reel in the winning blue marlin. Other developments from the 2013 Georgetown Gov. Cup included Cathy Baxley winning the top lady angler award for her fine mahi mahi caught from El Tejano.
