2011 Lowcountry QDMA Branch Banquet

The Lowcountry Branch of the Quality Deer Management Association made a seamless transition from the outdoor event on John's Island a few years ago to the indoor event held at the Omar Shrine temple in Mount Pleasant on August 4. QDMA founder Joe Hamilton was not able to attend, but we would be remiss without giving him a nod of recognition for fostering the concept of QDM in Colleton County. This QDMA banquet drew hunters from Hampton, Colleton, Berkely, Charleston and Williamsburg Counties and branch leader Freddy St. Laurent was very pleased. The QDMA National Convention is next week in Nashville, but they sent Southeast Regional Director Kevin Graves to town to help foster the relationship with QDMA HQ in Athens, Georgia. The cocktail hour gave hunters time to sample a silent auction, food by Charleston Bay Gourmet, venison by Cordray's Processing, ATV dealers and taxidermy by Kenneth Cordray and Dan Pernell. The live auction featured deer hunts, turkey calls, fishing trips, prints and even jewelry for sporting ladies! No one planning a deer hunt on opening day could overlook the heatwave that has the Lowcountry Outdoors smokin' hot right, but most chatted about being opportunistic when the weather allows for a comfortable hunt.
