New S.C. state record Atlantic Sharpnose Shark

Female angler Lori Murphy of Myrtle Beach caught a 13-pound 5-ounce Atlantic Sharpnose Shark while fishing out of Murrell's Inlet (M.I.) on 4/18/09. Murphy and husband Sean ran their 21-foot Sea Chaser out 55 miles that day to troll near the Winyah Scarp. After landing a few dolphin they tried bottom fishing, when she rigged some squid on her pink Blackfin Pro rod and Shimano Torium reel. The fish was landed in short order and Murphy knew that the fish was a keeper, and probably enough for a new state record. The couple met SCDNR biologist David Player at Seven Seafood in M.I. and he certified the new Marine Gamefish State Record.
