The 28th annual Charleston Coastal Anglers tournament was fished July 9th in windy and sunny conditions. The fish were hard to come by for most anglers according to the reports coming in at the weigh-in from 4 to 5:30 at the James Island Yacht Club.
With rough seas, just getting to the king mackerel grounds had to be tough but Andrew Olsen managed to bring back a 10.2-pounder, the only king brought to the scales, which won the the first place rod and reel and a special $1000 bonus prize for largest king mackerel from the Charleston Crab House. Capt. Robert Olsen took son Andrew fishing, and Andrew's grandfather was present at the weigh-in. Andrew Olsen also stopped to catch a few black sea bass while out looking for kings and ended up sweeping all three places in the BSB category. Congrats Andrew!
Justin Chaplin won the 'most spots' redfish contest with five spots and a slot limit spot-tail.
