The S.C. Governor's Cup Billfishing Series is hitting full stride coming off of the CBC and into the anchor leg of the Charleston harbor tournaments, the MegaDock. The largest Gov. Cup fleet has assembled and the 48 offshore fishing teams are poised to compete for the title of outstanding billfish boat. With only one Gov. Cup event remaining at Edisto later in July, the MegaDock is in position to be a large factor in determining who will win the Petrel trophy after the completion of the series. The Charleston Angler tackle shop is the title sponsor for the 2011 MegaDock and TCA's founders, Dr. Malcolm and Caroline Rhodes, were in attendance at the Captain's meeting held under the Megatent in the City Marina's parking lot. A wonderful barbecue dinner was served up by Mike Altine Jr.'s Charleston Tides Catering, while City Marina manager Robbie Freeman and Gov. Cup director Wallace Jenkins spoke from the stage about the tournament rules. According to the Megadock site, the first boat to release a blue marlin will receive free fuel for the tournament.
