The 2013 banquet season for the Quality Deer Management Association got underway with a jovial celebration of their 25th anniversary year! The ACE Basin branch of QDMA held their 4th annual banquet in Walterboro on February 9, with QDMA founder Joe Hamilton in attendance. A catered meal of shrimp and grits with baked chicken welcomed the QDMA supporters at 6 p.m. with the next two hours filled with fellowship and silent auction bidding. Tales of finding shed antlers and 'feeding up' seemed to be the top of the deer hunting discussion. Sponsor members enjoyed reserved seating and  recognition in the handsome banquet bulletin. Thanks to Guy Harvey Inc. for partnering with Lowcountry Outdoors in an effort to raise awareness about marine conservation. QDMA regional director Kevin Graves was present, and announced his recent resignation to spend more time at home - and we wish him well. A good contingent of youth, now branded the Rack Pack, were present and lending a hand from distributing raffle items to leading by example for other future deer hunters. A large live auction with 30 items included a deer hunt, turkey hunt, quail hunt and alligator hunt - and it's all possible right in the ACE Basin! QDMA announced its new state license plate program by auctioning the first numbers in the new sequence that will soon be on autos everywhere. A special shout goes out to the auctioneer who lost his microphone system, but powered up his own voice to finish out the night.
